It was the perfect Sunday morning down at South Beach Troon. 23 teams arrived to play in glorious sunshine with just a wee sea breeze.

In Men’s Division I it was the perfect opportunity for some of the lower ranking players to make an impact as some of the usual big names and players were missing from the draw.

Gordon Teoh and Colin McGinlay made the final and Colin may have lost out on the final but he won the best dressed man award arriving resplendent in a suit! Colin McNab and Gavin Watt won the final in two straight sets to give them their best finish in the tour so far. And talking of big players - it was a chance for Graeme Houston and his partner Gordon Cree to get their best finish this tour - unfortunately Kenny Moretta and Nisbet Duffin beat them to 5th place - next time boys! Two of the tours most ‘experienced’ players Barry Roberston  and Ian Cook finished an excellent 3rd place beating a fine pair of ‘athletes’ Billy Harris and Stevie Graham who wasn't feeling his best all day.

In Men’s Division II Nairn and McInnes won in straight sets against Wilkie and Lamont, with Welsh and Diamond coming third. Cathy Smy playing in Men’s Division II with her partner finished a respectable fifth place (not last!) Well done to her!

In the women’s division I,  Eilidh Smith and Claire Penny won in two sets against Shelly Paterson and Sara Cooney - both pairs playing together for the first time. Penny and Smith getting their second tour win, winning previous tournaments with different partners. Lyall and Grossart finished third although by the semi finals Lyall was worst than a man down and Karen Grossart really had her work cut out in this pairing. Elaine Krawczyk and Linsey Bunten made the semi finals which was a great improvement for them.

In the mixed tournament three teams had an entertaining day playing each other then playing some 6v6 and generally having a good day out at the seaside. The winners were the Littlest Hobos beating Hornet’s 2 on the centre court.

Many thanks again to the usual crew from Troon VC(Elaine, Jenny, Gordon, Houston, Emma and Linsey) for the early start and getting the courts up. A special thanks to Colin Paterson for his invaluable assistance and for surviving a night out in Killie!

Great volleyball, great weather - fingers crossed for next year!
